English singer-songwriter Charlie XCX released her album “brat” this past June and has just released another catchy dance track on Sept. 12, featuring Australian singer-songwriter and actor Troye Sivan. “Talk talk” was first released on the “brat” album without Sivan’s feature.
The song is about getting close to someone and all of the feelings that come with it. It is an upbeat dance-pop track but the lyrics are surprisingly vulnerable, expressing the fear that accompanies opening up to someone.
Towards the beginning of the new remix, Sivan sings, “‘Cause we talk that talk, yeah we talk all night / And the more I know you, the more I like you / Can you stick with me? Maybe just for life.”
The song reflects the exciting yet nerve-wracking stage of a relationship where you realize how much you really care for a person and don’t want to mess it up.
Something so telling of a great piece of music is how diverse it is in terms of lyrics and sound. It is clear that early 2000s rave or club-sounding music and beats are coming back into popular culture and Charli XCX is one of the leading artists catapulting it back into style. She has been able to simultaneously push the boundaries of pop music for this generation and also write songs that resonate deeply with listeners.
Sivan also adds a lot to this already great song. His deeper and more raw voice really highlights the story of the lyrics in comparison to the electronic sound.
Overall this song is new, it’s exciting and it definitely should be on repeat.
