Last Saturday marked the third game of the season for the Ramapo women’s field hockey team; they were defeated by nonconference opponent Marywood University by a final score of 3-1.

Melissa Choka, left forward, put Ramapo on the board early in the game, scoring five minutes into the game, her first goal of the year.

However, this was the only goal scored by Ramapo. Marywood forward Leanne McManus scored a goal at 21:57, which was assisted by Gabby Bower to tie the game at one.

Marywood outshot Ramapo 10-2 in the first half.

McManus opened up the second half with her second goal of the game three minutes into the half, giving Marywood the 2-1 lead.

With time running out, the Roadrunners continued to play tough despite the score. However, Cassie Stockwell iced the game, giving the Pacers a 3-1 lead with her second goal of the season. Although Ramapo lost the game, they did outnumber Marywood in corners, 8-6, seven of the corners coming in the second half.

The Roadrunners went on to face Saint Thomas Aquinas College on Tuesday at the athletic center turf, but they were defeated by a score of 2-1.

Once again, the Roadrunners opened up the game with an early goal scored by Nicole Healy six minutes into the game. Lauren Groso dished out the assist.

However, the Spartans would score twice in the second half to clinch the victory.

Angela Rendina tied the game up at one, as Carly Davin was credited with the assist. With 15 seconds left in the game, Davin scored the game-winning goal.

The Roadrunners also had 16 penalty corners, while the Spartans only had six with five of them in the second half.

The 1-3 Roadrunners look to snap their three-game losing streak, as they will try to end the three-game winning streak of the 3-3 Manhattanville College Valiants in Purchase, New York tonight at 7 p.m.
