Ramapo College could not find good form against Montclair State University on Tuesday night, as they racked up their second loss in a row.
This marked the first loss for Ramapo College in the New Jersey Athletic Conference this season.
The Red Hawks of Montclair were victorious and won three sets to one (25-14, 25-21, 15-25, 25-20), bringing their overall record to 9-6. The Roadrunners maintain a nearly identical record of 9-5; both teams hold a 2-1 record in the conference.
On a positive note for Ramapo College, Larysa Iwaskiw, sophomore outside hitter for the Roadrunners was named NJAC Player of the Week for the second time this season.
Iwaskiw was able to secure her team 24 kills, one shy of her season high, on 61 attempts with 10 errors. She also picked up 18 digs.
Senior captain and setter Kaitlin Mac Iver had yet another convincing performance, racking up 32 assists.
Senior libero and captain Emily Harris posted 16 digs, while freshman libero Kristen Behrens posted 14 digs.
Montclair State’s Kimberly and Courtney Matlock, both juniors, both proved their worth with two stellar performances. Courtney, the outside hitter, had 16 skills and two aces, while her sister Kimberly, setter, had 38 assists and even tallied three blocks. Lily Scanzillo, sophomore libero of the Red Hawks, led her squad in digs by picking up a whopping 31.
Courtney LePore, senior middle blocker for the Red Hawks, tallied 11 kills herself.
Despite beating Montclair State in kills 49-48, the Roadrunners had a hitting percentage of .133, while the Red Hawks hit .229.
Ramapo College will have a chance to improve their record and rediscover their competitive potential on Friday night with a home match as they host the Roadrunner Invitational this weekend. They will open up the tournament by facing Hunter College on Friday at 6 p.m. in the Bradley Center.
