The Women’s volleyball team traveled to Glassboro, New Jersey to take on the Rowan University Profs, but came home with a loss in four sets (26-24, 18-25, 25-19, 25-14).

The Roadrunners now sit in third place in the conference at 13-6 overall and 3-2 in the conference, while the Profs improved to 4-2 in the conference – good for second place – but their overall record is 10-11.

“They’ve always been a difficult team,” said Head Coach Robert Pichardo. “[The Trip to Rowan] is a long travel, and we couldn’t get a good tempo.”

Pichardo added that the Roadrunners had a rough first set and were trying to set each other up with “bad balls”.

“We took control and played well in the second set, and then we don’t know what happened,” said Pichardo. “Between two plays here and there, things kind of just went downhill from there.”

Pichardo added that his team could have improved on defense in order to hold off the Profs.

“Our defense in the beginning of the game, we just couldn’t find the proper placement on our side of the court,” said Pichardo.

Despite the loss, outside hitter Larysa Iwaskiw posted 21 kills, her sixth-highest on the season. She also tallied a team-high 13 digs.

Emily Guzman has done a nice job in her stint as an outside hitter, as she tied her season high in kills with 10. Guzman has played most of her career as a middle blocker.

Senior Setter and Co-Captain Kailin Mac Iver posted 32 assists on the evening.

Despite hitting .308 in the second set, the Roadrunners hit just .113 in the match.

The Roadrunners can clinch a playoff spot tonight with a win over Rutgers-Camden and a William Paterson loss to Rowan.

Pichardo said that with less than three weeks until the NJAC tournament, the Roadrunners need to fix up some issues.

“We have to adjust to the few things we need to make better for our system,” said Pichardo.

With a 13-6 overall record and a 3-2 NJAC record, Pichardo deems this season so far a success.

“There is a lot of tough competition,” said Pichardo. “As long as we play a disciplined-type of game, we should be fine with whatever we’ve been doing.”

The Roadrunners will take on the Scarlet Raptors at 7:00 p.m. at the Bradley Center.
