With Halloween falling on a Saturday this year, Ramapo is planning on making the day quite eventful with help from the College Programming Board, Commuter Affairs, the Women’s Center and other organizations. With events like the Gender Bender Costume Ball, Trunk or Treat and black light mini golf, the weekend is sure to be a hit on campus. The events are meant to foster Ramapo’s sense of community and to incentivize students to stay on campus during the holiday.
Trunk or Treat is an event where students are encouraged to decorate the trunk of their cars for a one-of-a-kind trick or treating experience in the Athletic Field Lot.
On Oct. 29 at Friends Hall, the Women’s Center will hold its annual Gender Bender Costume Ball, an event designed to let students step outside of their gender norms and dress as a gender which they don’t normally identify as. On Oct. 30, the College Programming Board will be hosting their black light mini golfing event in Friends Hall, as well.
Along with all of the events, students are of course encouraged to dress up. Some students are even planning on having candy on hand, in case their fellow classmates knock on their doors in costume.
In addition to the events offered by the school, students can spend the spooky holiday in the comfort of their dorm watching Halloween classics on movie-streaming services like Netflix and Hulu. Music services like Pandora, Spotify and Apple Music provide perfectly spooky playlists in order to set the perfect mood in students’ dorm rooms.
When asked how she intends to spend the holiday, freshman Tori Trelford stated, “I will be drowning in candy corn, while dressed like Harley Quinn, and I’ll be having a dance party with my roommate, Megan.”
While some have chosen to stay on campus, others have chosen to leave, whether for trick or treating purposes, or for romantic ones.
Freshman Veronica Lindquist said, “I’m going home. Halloween is my one year anniversary with my boyfriend, so we’re going to hardcore trick or treat.”
With many options available, Halloween will be a hard day to miss. Spirits will certainly be high, the costumes haunting and it is quite obvious that students are excited for the impending holiday. It is clear that Halloween is still a prevalent and popular day on campus and the provided events will certainly be a hit among students.
