The women’s volleyball team traveled to Stockton University on Tuesday night where they faced the Ospreys, who are undefeated in conference play. Though they were close games, Stockton came out with the victory in straight sets (25-20, 25-20, 25-15).
Larysa Iwaskiw was the star of the match, once again leading the team with 12 kills and 14 digs.
Emily Guzman and Rachel Selmore also had eight and five kills respectively for their team, but the Ospreys always seemed to have the upper hand. Stockton finished with a .421 hitting percentage with 48 kills on 95 attempts while the Roadrunners only hit .132 with 27 kills on 91 attempts.
Senior setter Kaitlin Mac Iver had 24 assists on the night, and she also tallied five digs. Junior Nataia Saavedra posted seven digs herself on defense.
Although they received their third NJAC loss, the Roadrunners’ 5-3 conference record still secured the no. 4 seed in the NJAC tournament beginning next week.
Their 11th straight NJAC tournament berth, the lady Roadrunners look to hoist the championship trophy at the end of it all.
Their first test will be against no. 5 seeded Rowan University who defeated the Roadrunners three sets to one in their last bout.
The Roadrunners led themselves to their own demise in that match, hitting a weak .113 and committing 25 errors on attempted kills.
To be on the winning side of the spectrum for this match, minimizing the unforced errors will be key for the Roadrunners. The winner of this matchup will have to go against no. 1 seeded Stockton on the Ospreys’ home court where they are 4-0 on the season.
The Roadrunners may be a low seed in the tournament, but with great hitters in Iwaskiw, Selmore and Guzman playing at their best along with the rest of the squad, these players may have a shot to make history.
Before the NJAC tournament starts, the Roadrunners will travel to Oneonta, New York for the Dig Pink Invitational, which will serve as great practice against good teams. They will face off against host Oneonta on Friday at 5 p.m.
