The men’s volleyball team earned two more Skyline Conference victories over the weekend, as they swept both Purchase College and the Sage Colleges in a doubleheader in Troy, New York on Saturday.
The two victories earned the Roadrunners a 4-6 overall record, along with a 3-0 record against conference opponents. This was the second time they defeated Purchase College in as many meetings this season, winning both matches in three sets.
The first matchup of the day for the Roadrunners came against the Gators of the Sage Colleges. Despite hitting just .190 in the match, the Roadrunners took care of business, beating the Gators in three sets (26-24, 25-15, 25-23).
Sophomore outside hitter Justin Feigeles led the way for Ramapo with 18 kills. He was also one of three Roadrunners with two blocks in the match, along with junior outside hitter Connor Brandow and freshman middle hitter Brenden Russell.
Feigeles’ hitting percentage of .398 was a match-high, as he committed seven errors outside of his 18 kills in his 28 attempts.
None of these kills would have happened without the help of freshman setter Mikhael Erushalimski, who had a match-high 30 assists; the Gators as a team had just 23.
Brandow led the Roadrunners with five service aces, as well, with the Sage Colleges only putting up two aces.
After earning their second conference win of the season, the Roadrunners did not have to wait long for more action as they took on the Panthers of Purchase College for the second time in seven days. The Roadrunners won the match in three sets (25-17, 25-19, 25-13).
Feigeles showed no signs of slowing down, as he improved his hitting percentage from the first match up to .533; Feigeles once again recorded 18 kills and only had two attack errors in 30 attempts.
Freshman outside hitter Paul Close was not far behind Feigeles, as he recorded 11 kills of his own in match two without committing an error, holding an outstanding hitting percentage of .688 in 16 attempts.
Erushalimski recorded 36 assists against Purchase, and he and Brandow tied for a match high of three blocks.
The Roadrunners combined to hit a solid .369 in the match.
Last night, the Roadrunners lost to the Scarlet Raiders of Rutgers-Newark, who are the eighth-best team in the country, in three sets (25-19, 25-18, 25-21). It was the Roadrunners’ first conference loss of the season.
The Roadrunners will travel to Jersey City, New Jersey this weekend, where they will try to earn two more conference victories against Mount Saint Vincent and New Jersey City University.
