The men and women’s tennis teams competed at the Spring Fest Tennis Tournament in Hilton Head, South Carolina over spring break.
The men’s team opened up with an 8-1 win over the Terriers. In the singles competition, the team went 5-1. Willen Feygin, Adam Petrovics, Matt Goldstein, Matt Talmage and Christopher Wong all walked away with wins.
In the doubles competition, the Roadrunners went undefeated, with Feygin and Goldstein, Petrovics and Fuster, and Talmage and Wong all scoring wins.
In the second match of the week, Ramapo swept Curry College, 9-0.
The third match of the week resulted in Ramapo’s first loss of the season. St. Mary’s College of Maryland defeated the Roadrunners 6-3. Feygin and Goldstein were the two individual winners, and they also won their doubles match.
In the last match of the Spring Fest Tournament, the Roadrunners saw an 8-1 win over UMass Boston. Feygin, Petrovics, Wong, Goldstein and Fuster all won their matches. The Roadrunners swept the doubles competition.
For the women’s team, the Roadrunners went winless, moving their record to 13-5 to wrap up the season.
After being swept by Dickinson, the second loss of the week came from Anges Scott College, 7-2. Katrina Biss was the lone singles competition winner, defeating Camille Wilson 6-3, 7-5. For the doubles competition, the team of Biss and Emily Biunno took home Ramapo’s lone doubles win.
Ramapo’s third match of the week was a loss dealt by St. Mary’s College of Maryland, 6-3. In the singles competition, Sabrina Koropchak, Biss and Biunno all recorded wins for the Roadrunners.
The final match of the Spring Fest Tournament and the final match for women’s tennis featured a loss from Concordia University, 8-1. with Bliss earning the lone victory.
When asked about the tournament, head coach Raza Baig said that missing players was a big factor in all of the losses.
“The men’s team did well even though we were missing two of our top players who couldn’t travel,” stated Baig. “The women’s team struggled as we didn’t have four of our top six. Our main season is in the fall.” The lady Roadrunners went 13-1 in the fall.
Baig is looking to repeat an impressive last season, where the Roadrunners won their third straight conference title and had their first ever NCAA appearance.
“We may not be as deep as last year but our top of the order is strong enough to bring us another title,” Baig said.
The men’s team returns to action next Thursday when Yeshiva University will come to Ramapo.
