The women’s lacrosse team had another dominating win on Saturday over The Sage Colleges, outscoring the Gators 16-4.
The Roadrunners earned their second victory of the year after losing their previous three games.
Lindsey Hughes opened up the scoring 3:07 into the game, scoring an unassisted goal. Hughes would go on to score five more goals in the game, four of them in the first half. Hughes now has 17 goals on the season, a team high.
Head coach Jane Koeniges said Hughes has done “everything” in her four years as a Roadrunner.
“She has really taken this program and has helped develop it,” said Koeniges. “I feel like our program is much more structured; we’re headed in the right direction, and she is very much the key.”
The two-year captain also dished out three assists in the game, all of them within four minutes.
Sophomore Alyssa Tachon found the back of the net twice against Sage, scoring her 11th and 12th goals of the year, and tallied two assists as well.
She also had eight ground balls against the Gators and ranks first in ground balls for the Roadrunners with 19.
Sophomore Jessica Meyers had 11 saves on the day.
Sophomore Victoria Cunningham also put up a hat trick and an assist.
Sophomore Beth McGraw also put up two goals; other Roadrunner goal scorers were freshman Hayley Luisa, junior Katie Duca and sophomore Kasey Kahley.
Koeniges admitted that the Roadrunners have not yet found their identity, as they have played in three games with a goal differential of at least a dozen goals. The Roadrunners defeated Centenary College 16-2 to open the season on March 2, but lost to No. 5 TCNJ 17-1 six days later.
“I think it’s the different levels we play; it shows the different levels that are out there,” said Koeniges. “There are just some teams where we match up well; our strengths are their weaknesses and vice versa.”
The Roadrunners do not play another NJAC contest until April 9 where they will take on Stockton on the Athletic Center Turf, but Koeniges thinks that the upcoming schedule, filled with six nonconference games, will be good preparation for the playoff push.
“The games that I put in before the NJAC, I hope to build for the NJAC so I know we’re ready,” said Koeniges.
The Roadrunners traveled to Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania yesterday to take on King’s College; they came home with a 19-16 victory, improving their record to 3-3.
Ramapo is back in action tomorrow when the Eagles of the College of St. Elizabeth will come to town; the Roadrunners will look to improve to over .500 for the first time since winning the season opener.
