The Roadrunners looked to end a four-game losing streak when they took the field at the Athletic Center Turf Field on Tuesday afternoon in an NJAC matchup against the No. 19 ranked Kean University Cougars, but the Roadrunners suffered a shutout loss to Kean by a score of 4-0.
Senior forward Nicole Healy thinks that the Roadrunners came out with energy despite the loss.
“It’s our first NJAC game and we’re home, so we really wanted to come out with as much energy as we could,” said Healy.
Kean University drew first blood early in the first period when rookie midfielder Jenna Patrone scored unassisted for her third goal of the season.
Kean would add to their lead in the 23rd minute when third-year midfielder/defender Shauna LaMaina recorded her 12th goal of the season without any help.
Kean was not done just yet, though, as they would score two more in the second period.
Kean’s second period scoring started in the 53rd minute of the game as third-year forward Krista LaMaina put a shot in the net for her 13th goal of the season with the assist by Patrone.
Kean would score their fourth and final goal of the game in the closing minutes when Patrone scored her second goal of the game, and her fourth of the year with the assist by third-year midfielder Teresa Carr. With the loss, the Roadrunners dropped to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in the NJAC. Meanwhile, Kean University remained unbeaten as they improve to 11-0 overall and 2-0 in the NJAC.
Additionally, 20 of Kean’s shots were on goal while the Roadrunners had just two out of their shots on goalie Nicole
Third-year goalkeeper and first-year captain Emily Wisneski made 14 saves.
Wisneski felt that creating more scoring chances would be something that the Roadrunners would work on as they go forward.
“I think that’s something we’re always looking at because obviously you can’t win a game if you don’t score at all,” said Wisneski.
The Roadrunners’ next game on the schedule does not get any easier as they have to travel to Glassboro, New Jersey to face No. 15 ranked Rowan University.
