The wins just keep on coming for the women’s volleyball team.
The Roadrunners won their 14th straight match on Tuesday when they traveled to Kean University. They won in straight sets (25-23, 25-19, 25-15).
“We are constantly working hard in practice and focusing on areas that need more improvement. The entire team is mentally on the same page, eager to play and work hard in practice, and the results are paying off,” said junior outside hitter Larysa Iwaskiw.
The Roadrunners are now 18-3 on the season and are 4-0 in conference play.
They have now won their last 11 sets. In the 46 sets that they have played on their winning streak, they have won 42 of them.
Iwaskiw led the way for the Roadrunners on both offense and defense, pounding down 16 kills and recording 21 digs.
Junior middle blocker Lena Husslein blocked four potential kills, while senior middle blocker Emily Guzman blocked three.
Guzman also posted seven kills of her own.
Senior outside hitter Rachel Selmore and freshman setter Kate Shirkey each dished out 16 assists.
Despite being listed as an outside hitter, Selmore has 329 assists in her senior year, which is second on the team to the freshman Shirkey, who has 409 so far.
Both have done a great job of replacing Kaitlin Mac Iver, who graduated last May, who had 920 assists last year and over 1,000 the year before that.
The Roadrunners have just four conference matches left before the playoffs, and Iwaskiw wants the to get as much accomplished as possible.
“We still have four games left and a lot of opportunity to learn and grow through these games,” said the junior. “Our mindset as a team has been to play our game, no matter who the opponent is, and that is what we will strive to do in the remainder of the season.”
Right now, the Roadrunners are set for home court advantage throughout the NJAC Playoff Tournament, as they are ranked No. 1 in the conference.
“The entire team was very optimistic and eager to claim the top position in the NJAC, and this year we have a lot of potential to do that if our hard work continues,” said Iwaskiw.
The Roadrunners will look to keep the ball rolling next Tuesday when the Montclair State Red Hawks will enter the Bradley Center at 7 p.m.
