The Ramapo swim teams closed the calendar year with victories over Lehman College last Sunday, as the men’s team took home a dominating 135-55 victory, while the lady Roadrunners pulled off an impressive 112-75 win.
Both teams improved to 2-2 on the season.
Out of all 28 races in the meet, 14 by both men and women, a Roadrunner took home first place honors in 23 of them.
In the men’s 200-yard relay, the Roadrunners took home for top three spots of the race, coming in at 1:41.91, 1:46.43 and 1:47.98
Another sweep came in their next race – the 1,000-yard freestyle.
Junior Chaz Cella took home the victory in 10:37.05, followed by freshman Tyler Czubachowski’s 11:01.13 and sophomore Nicholas Markwell’s 11:05.40.
Two races later, freshman Tomer Bachar, junior Matt Stenger and senior Evan Graziano took the first three spots in the 100-yard backstroke, respectively.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, senior RJ Carillo topped all swimmers at 1:00.90; sophomores Aviad Mana and John Wittmann finished second and third – Mana finished at 1:04.64, while Whittmann touched the wall at 1:09.61.
The 100-yard breaststroke was Carillo’s second victory of the meet – he was a part of the 200-yard relay team that took home first place in the men’s first race of the meet.
Carillo earned the hat trick with his victory in the 200-yard instant medley, touching the wall at a time of 2:02.91.
he also finished fourth in the 100-yard butterfly.
Czubachowski, Markwell and Stenger took home the top three spots of the 200-yard backstroke.
As for the women’s team, they started off the meet against Lehman with two groups topping the leaderboard in the 200-yard medley relay.
The group made up of junior Julia Housel, senior Brenda Arthur, junior Meghan Trewhella and freshman Grace McCrone took home the victory with a time of 1:59.32.
Trewhella was able to take home another victory in the 200-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 2:12.13.
Junior Lene Sansone followed right behind her, finishing in second with a time of 2:13.76.
The Housel sisters, Julia and Cara, displayed dominance in the 100-yard backstroke, taking the top two spots in the race.
The little sister prevailed, however, as Julia came away victorious with her 1:03.77. Cara finished at 1:08.28.
Arthur earned her second victory of the day with a time of 26.08 in the 50-yard freestyle. Julia Housel finished in second at 26.73.
Arthur finished her day on an extremely high note, winning her third race of the day in the 400-yard instant medley relay. Her 4:55.03 set the new school record for that race, breaking the previous record that had been held since 2010.
The Roadrunners will be off for the remainder of 2016.
The next time they will see the pool in competitive action will be in the new year, as they will travel to Montclair State University to take on the Red Hawks for their third NJAC matchup of the season – both the men and women will be looking for their first conference victory.
Both the men’s and women’s teams have just four meets left in the regular season before traveling to New Brunswick for the MET Championships, a meet that the men finished in eighth place, and the women finished in seventh.
