The Ramapo College baseball team suffered a loss to the Old Westbury Panthers on Wednesday. The Panthers defeated the Roadrunners 4-0 in non-conference play, improving their overall record to 15-12. Ramapo falls to 9-14 on the season.

Old Westbury was the first on the board with a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third, which was scored after an error, a stolen base and an infield single. The next run for the Panthers came after a solo homerun in the fifth to make the score 2-0. Two RBI doubles in the eighth knocked two more in for the 4-0 shutout.

The closest Ramapo came to scoring was when Rob DeAngelis and Brandon Martinez led off the sixth inning with back-to-back singles. A groundout allowed them both to advance with two outs left. However, the rest of the lineup did not fare too well off of the Panthers’ pitcher as two more groundouts followed, with two left on base at the end of the inning for the Roadrunners.

“It was a tough loss, but we just need to start playing better and more together, more as a team,” said Austin Unglaub. “If we can do that, then we will be more successful down the road and it will be fine.” Unglaub led the team in hits for the day, going 3-4.

Although Tyler Lombardo only walked three and let up just four hits during seven innings for Ramapo, he recorded the loss for the Roadrunners, making his record 0-1.

The Ramapo baseball team will face NJAC rival New Jersey City University for an away conference game on Thursday, April 11, at 3:30 p.m.
