The Ramapo women’s lacrosse team suffered a 10-point deficit to Kean University on Tuesday. The Cougars defeated the Roadrunners 20-10 in a home NJAC game. The win puts the Cougars at 9-3 for the season while the Roadrunners fall just below .500 at 5-6 overall.

The Cougars netted six goals before the Lady Roadrunners even got on the board. Sophomore Molly Warner scored an unassisted goal with 19 minutes of play left in the first half before Kean answered back with five more of their own to take the lead 11-1. With an obviously slow start, things started to kick into gear for Ramapo within the last three minutes of play when Alyssa Tachon posted two goals back-to-back, followed by one from Warner. The Roadrunners let up two more before the buzzer, allowing Kean to take the first half with an enormous 13-4 lead.

Ramapo’s Gabi Davidson came out into the second scoring an unassisted goal just over a minute into the half. Kean answered back with two before Tachon netted yet another goal; her third of the game. The score was 15-6 until a free position shot allowed Kean to take their 10-point lead back. However, Ramapo again scored three straight goals in a row. Tachon added another two, both on free position shots, to make it her fifth of the game, while teammate Nicole Jaskot recorded one as well to make the score 16-10. Although the Roadrunners rallied back to come within four, Kean added four more goals to solidify the win and regain their 10-point lead that they maintained for the majority of the game.

“The team worked really hard against Kean and I’m proud to say that we were able to score 10 goals against them when other teams haven’t been able to score more than two or three,” said Warner.

“After today’s game, I’m excited for our team to play against Rutgers next week, which will be a big game for us.”

Junior goalie Monica Bubello recorded five saves in the first 41 minutes of action for Ramapo.

“Kean has always been a tough game for us,” said Bubello. “I think at the beginning we played flat, but then we definitely picked up the pace in the second half.”

“The score was 20-10 and we definitely could have let it get more away from us, but we kept our composure, even though this loss was still a big one.”

The Roadrunners will travel to Montclair State University for a NJAC game at 7pm on Tuesday, April 18.
