It’s that time of year again for Freeform’s “25 Days of Christmas” movie marathon. This year Freeform will celebrate the 21st anniversary of their beloved holiday tradition. Freeform started the marathon in November to market people’s obsession with Christmas. The “25 Days of Christmas” movie lineup includes the classic clay animation movies such as “A Year Without Santa” and “Little Drummer,” as well as “National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation,” “Elf,” “Polar Express” and many more.

Some movies such as “Home Alone,” “Home Alone Two: Lost in New York,” and “Santa Clause Two” didn’t make the lineup this year. However, “Home Alone” was shown in November for the pre-holiday celebration. Most millennials grew up watching the classic “Home Alone” films and the “Harry Potter” movies. Both films are in the top five highest paid movies in the box office. According to Box Office Mojo, a box office reporting service, the highest grossing Christmas movie in the box office is “Home Alone,” as the movie grossed $285 million. “Home Alone Two: Lost in New York” made $173 million in the box office.

The second highest Christmas movie according to Box Office Mojo is the live action “Dr. Seuss How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” which made $260 million. The most quotable Christmas movie, “Elf,” placed fifth for highest Christmas movie in the box office and made $173 million in the box office according to Box Office Mojo.

“Harry Potter” movies won’t be shown until December 28 through December 31 and this will be the last time “Harry Potter” movies will be played on Freeform.  All eight “Harry Potter” movies were bought by HBO (Home Box Office) but the official switch from Freeform to HBO won’t happen until 2018. Harry Potter fans still have time to appreciate Freeform Harry Potter weekends for free but once the switch is made subscribers of HBO will have to pay to watch “Harry Potter” movies with no commercials come 2018.

Besides the “25 Days of Christmas” marathon, there is the 24-hour showing of the classic Christmas movie, “A Christmas Story,” on TNT and TBS throughout Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. The 24-hour showing of “A Christmas Story” has occurred since 1997 and according to Box Office Mojo the movie grossed over $19 million.

Make sure to tune in to the Freeform channel throughout the holiday season to get into the holiday spirit and make sure to follow Freeform on social media to find out when your favorite Christmas special will be airing!
