Just in time for Valentine's Day, the premier of “Fifty Shades Freed” was released on Feb.10. During its opening weekend the film made $136.9 million worldwide, making most of their profits in Europe. This is the third and final film premiering based on the books of the Fifty Shades Trilogy.

This film has caused much controversy, due to their dominant-submissive relationship. The feminist audience did not agree with how the producers portrayed their relationship of her basically being his sex object.

In “Fifty Shades Darker,” we see a transition of how their relationship does develop into something greater than just sex. In “Fifty Shades Freed,” we see the idealistic relationship every young girl dreams of; Prince Charming coming to the rescue and being swept off their feet.

The third film focuses on Christian Grey and Anastasia growing as a couple and extending their family. This changes up the entire plot of the “Fifty Shades” theme which focused on Anastasia snatching up the single billionaire Christian Grey by becoming his “submissive.”

There were rules to their relationship and she had to follow the rules he had set up for her. In the latest film the audience sees a completely different side of him and their relationship turns into what some would consider a dream come true.

Jamie Dornan (Grey) expresses in several interviews he is glad to be done with his role as Christian Grey, mentioning he is “too old” for the role. It’s hard to blame the guy for wanting to be America’s well- known sex object. Unfortunately, the audience was not content with this film.

Jasmine Ingram, a senior at Ramapo, said, “The movie seemed rushed, and not what my friends and I expected at all. The movie was very average as well as the ending. I always go to premier night for these movies, but it was not worth it for this one. The movie lacked excitement, especially since it will be their last one.”

There were high expectations since producers made fans wait an entire year for the next film. It seemed as though they had a short amount of time to film a movie and tried to fit in everything into two hours of film time. The film received many bad reviews, yet there will be many couples watching what all the bad publicity is about, causing box office numbers to continue to increase.
