This weekend, the Roadrunners faced off with two of their conference rivals, Kean and TCNJ. Ramapo traveled to Kean on Thursday and dropped their first bout with the Cougars, 3-1.
However on Friday, the Cougars had to travel to Ramapo and the home field advantage seemed to do the trick as the Roadrunners took this one in walk off fashion by a score of 6-5.
Ramapo struck first putting up one in the first and three more in the third. Kean couldn’t get to Kevin Stewart until the fourth, but was able to bring two across in the 5th and two more in the eighth.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Roadrunners loaded the bases with two outs bringing Matt Chemis to the plate. Chemis was able to leg out a ground ball to third for an RBI single bringing home Evan Ochlan to tie it up at 5-5. Austin Unglaub came up next and poked a single through the right side of the infield, platting Kyle Buser to win the game.
Kevin Foulds earned his first win of the season after coming in relief for the Roadrunners.
On Sunday, Ramapo traveled to #10/14 TCNJ for a double header to round out the weekend’s conference action. Unfortunately for Ramapo, the Lions took both, bringing Ramapo’s conference record to 2-4.
In game one, Cory Heitler earned his first loss of the season. TCNJ’s offence rallied behind their ace, Joe Cirillo, who had been named Pitcher of The Year in the previous 2017 season. He kept Ramapo’s offense quite in the 11-0 game one.
Game two didn’t go much differently. TCNJ’s offense stayed hot as they scored two in the bottom of the first inning. Jerry D’Andrea was able to hold the Lions off until the sixth, but it wasn’t enough to save him from taking his third loss of the season.
TCNJ added two in the fifth and sixth, and another five in the eighth. Ramapo was able to put their first run of the day on the board in the eighth thanks to a sac fly off the bat of Bobby Shannon. They put one more up in the ninth as Vinny Sita connected on the first pitch he saw sending his first homerun over the left field fence. The Roadrunners dropped this one by a final score of 11-2.
This week Ramapo continues their conference play with NJCU on Thursday and Friday, and a double header with Rutgers-Camden on Saturday.
The Roadrunners are now standing at 16-10 overall and 2-4 in the conference.
