Last weekend, one of the biggest gatherings for all things nerdy made its annual presence once again. From Oct. 3 to Oct. 6, New York Comic Con 2019 took place, attracting thousands of guests to the Javits Center full of tons of events.

Various aspects of fandom culture, movies, TV shows, video games and works of literature made their presence known at the convention through show floor booths and open events.

Some of the many guests that came to the convention included Tom Hiddleston, Paul Rudd, the cast of “SpongeBob Squarepants,” the cast of the hit American anime “RWBY,” New York Times bestselling author Sarah J. Maas and several of the Disney Princess voice actresses. There were even surprise celebrity appearances, including Joe Manganiello, Ryan Reynolds and Margot Robbie!

Regardless of one’s interests and media preferences, this year had something in store for everyone lucky enough to attend the event.

Guests were able to get sneak peeks of their favorite media, as well as new and upcoming works. Examples include the first episode of the CW’s upcoming “Nancy Drew” show, the first 12 minutes of the new season of “RWBY” and the upcoming third graphic novel in the bestselling “The Adventure Zone” series.

Accompanied by discussions in various panels and guest autograph sessions, each guest in attendance was able to meet the people who created their favorite media.

This year, numerous vendors filled up both the Show Floor and Artist Alley, offering their merchandise to any patrons willing to pay for them. Comic books, regular books, art, clothing, accessories and Funko Pop! Figures were just some of the many items available for purchase at the convention.

Additionally, several brands were promoting their work with novelty areas and interactive booths, including the new season of “South Park,” video game companies like Capcom (“Resident Evil” series, “Mega Man Zero/ZX Legacy Collection”), PlayStation (“Predator: Hunting Grounds,” “Death Stranding”) and Square Enix (“Marvel’s Avengers”) and the upcoming TNT show “Snowpiercer.”

There were plenty of activities for attendees to participate in while on the show floor, so there was never a dull moment.

While the event itself was full of great moments, there were also several surprise announcements made during its panels.

Ryan Reynolds appeared on the 20th Century Fox panel to announce his new movie “Free Guy,” a sci-fi movie about a man who realizes that he is a background character in a video game that is about to go offline.

During the Marvel Games panel, it was announced that Kamala Khan, otherwise known as Ms. Marvel, would become the sixth playable character in the upcoming “Marvel’s Avengers.”

These announcements, and many more, made big headlines on social media, proving that New York Comic Con can still have surprises up its sleeves.

Once again, the people behind New York Comic Con were able to create a memorable weekend for many. Now attendees can only look forward to the next iteration, which will be take place Oct. 8-11, 2020.
