2:22 p.m. After securing the electoral votes in Pennsylvania and Nevada, Democratic candidate Joe Biden wins the presidential election. Votes in Georgia, North Carolina and Alaska are still to be announced, but Biden currently holds 290 votes while Trump stands at 214.
Wednesday, Nov. 4
4:27 p.m. CNN projects Biden wins Michigan, reclaiming a "blue wall" state Trump won in 2016.
3:57 p.m. After prematurely claiming victory last night, the Trump campaign is going to the Supreme Court, "asking it to intervene in a pending case challenging a Pennsylvania Supreme Court decision that allowed ballots to be counted after Election Day," CNN reports.
2:31 p.m. Biden wins Wisconsin, a crucial swing state in this election. The electoral votes stand at 248-214 in Biden's favor.
11:27 a.m. Congressman Jeff Van Drew barely leads in the New Jersey District 2 House race against Democratic nominee Amy Kennedy.
10:11 a.m. "We won't rest until everyone's vote is counted," Biden tweets.
9:31 a.m. Biden wins Maine and Arizona. It remains a close race at 238-213.
Election Night
1:24 a.m. Facebook and Twitter flag Trump's latest post as "disputed." It reads, "We are up BIG, but they are trying to STEAL the Election."
1:21 a.m. Trump wins Texas, bringing him another 38 electoral votes. Biden still leads, though it comes close at 224-212.
1:14 a.m. Texas is likely for Trump, CBS reports.
12:52 a.m. Trump tweeted that he will be making a statement tonight. He closed the tweet saying, "A big WIN!"
12:46 a.m. Biden delivers remarks in Wilmington, calling for patience as counting continues in key states. "We knew this was going to go long," he told the crowd.
12:38 a.m. Trump wins Florida. He still trails behind as the current tally is 223-174.
12:25 a.m. Trump wins Iowa, raking in another 6 electoral votes.
12:23 a.m. Biden wins Minnesota while Trump wins Montana. According to AP, the results are currently 223-145 in favor of Biden.
12:08 a.m. Trump secures Ohio and Biden wins Hawaii. The count stands at 213-136.
11:52 p.m. CBS News predicts Biden will win Arizona, flipping the state for the first time since 1996.
11:16 p.m. Ohio is leaning toward Trump at 53.1%.
11:12 p.m. Trump wins Utah, and Biden wins New Hampshire. The current tally is 209-118.
11:02 p.m. Biden wins California, Oregon and Washington state for a total of 77 additional electoral votes. Trump wins Idaho. This brings the race to 205-112.
10:53 p.m. Trump leads Pennsylvania at 56.5%, but the state still has many early votes to be counted, CNN reports.
10:33 p.m. Trump wins Missouri, picking up the pace. The electoral votes currently stand at 131-108.
10:30 p.m. Democrats currently have 40 seats in the Senate while Republicans have 38. Either side needs 51 seats to have a majority. In the House, Democrats have 84 seats and Republicans have 119.
10:10 p.m. The first two questions on the New Jersey ballot are voted "Yes," legalizing marijuana and veteran property tax deduction.
10:01 p.m. Trump wins Kansas, trailing behind Biden at 98 electoral votes.
9:49 p.m. Trump is currently leading the popular vote by one million. He holds the lead in Texas, Florida and Georgia, which are crucial swing states in this race.
9:38 p.m. Biden wins Colorado, bringing the race to 131-92 in electoral votes.
9:33 p.m. Biden wins D.C. with 3 more electoral votes.
9:32 p.m. On all three New Jersey public questions, "Yes" is leading by a large margain. These are in favor of the legalization of marijuana, veteran property tax deduction and allowing redistricting if the Census is delayed.
9:07 p.m. In New Jersey, Cory Booker wins second full Senate term. Congressman Jeff Van Drew is currently leading in votes against Amy Kennedy.
9:03 p.m. Biden wins New Mexico and New York. Trump wins North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska and Wyoming. Biden currently leads in electoral votes at 119, while Trump holds 92.
8:55 p.m. Trump wins Indiana, putting him at 72 electoral votes.
8:45 p.m. New Jersey public question concerning the Marijuana Legalization Amendment is currently favored at 66.65%.
8:42 p.m. Biden is currently ourperforming Clinton's numbers in Houston and Dallas. He needs to exceed 2016 by more than he is doing now if he is to win the state, according to the New York Times.
8:33 p.m. Trump wins Tennessee and West Virginia for a total of 16 more electoral votes.
8:31 p.m. Trump wins Arkansas, bringing him to 61 electoral votes. Biden still leads with 85 votes.
8:24 p.m. Biden leads Ohio at 55.2%, a crucial state to win for President Trump, according to Fox News.
8:22 p.m. Swing states are on edge. Currently, Biden leads Texas and Pennsylvania while Trump leads Florida and Georgia.
8:05 p.m. Trump is ahead at 49.8% in Florida, a state with 29 electoral votes.
8:03 p.m. Biden takes an 8.9% lead in Texas.
8:03 p.m. Polls are closing across the country. Biden currently leads with 85 electoral votes, with Trump close behind at 55.
7:58 p.m. Trump wins South Carolina with 9 electoral votes.
7:58 p.m. Biden maintains lead in Florida at 49.6%.
7:51 p.m. Biden wins Virginia with 13 electoral votes.
7:40 p.m. Biden takes the lead in Virginia at 50.2% and in Florida at 50.6%.
7:30 p.m. Polls in North Carolina, Ohio and West Virginia closed. North Carolina's election results will be delayed by 45 minutes.
7:24 p.m. The Associated Press confirms electoral votes for Kentucky and Vermont, giving Trump 8 and Biden 3.
7:15 p.m. Washington Post confirms Trump acknowledges to staffers he could lose. Biden says "Philly is key."
7:00 p.m. CNN projects Trump will win Indiana. There are 11 electoral votes at stake in Indiana.
As of Thursday, more than 3.1 million mail-in ballots have been received by county officials, and New Jersey has begun counting, according to nj.com. The polls will be closing tonight at 8 p.m.
The first New Jersey public question, the Marijuana Legalization Amendment, is on the ballot for this election, and has been of great concern amongst residents. The question, as it would appear on the ballot is as follows:
“Do you approve amending the Constitution to legalize a controlled form of marijuana called 'cannabis?' Only adults at least 21 years of age could use cannabis. The state commission created to oversee the state's medical cannabis program would also oversee the new, personal use cannabis market. Cannabis products would be subject to the state sales tax. If authorized by the Legislature, a municipality may pass a local ordinance to charge a local tax on cannabis products.”
A recent poll from law firm Brach Eichler’s Cannabis Law Practice found approximately 65% of respondents showed support for the ballot question.
