The Ramapo College women’s soccer team put on a great display with a comfortable 9-0 victory against the College of Staten Island Dolphins yesterday at home.

The Roadrunners came into this game with a 2-6-2 overall record and were looking for a victory to get back on track.

“Hopefully this will give us confidence going into Rutgers-Camden,” head coach Abby Schiffler said. “It’s a huge must win game.”

It did not take long for the Roadrunners to jump on the Dolphins with their first goal coming just 2:43 into the game thanks to freshman Nani Vizcaino. From there the goals kept on coming as the next goal came just about seven minutes after from junior Nicole Ninomiya, set up by junior Autumn Herring.

The rest of the half was clearly in Roadrunner control as most of the play was in CSI’s defensive side of the field. Sophomore Kelsey Sutherland added two goals before the half ended, one coming in at 25:84 and the other at 37:51.

The Roadrunners kept up the pace in the second half as Ninomiya knocked in her second goal of the game, just 2:56 into the second half.

The goals kept coming, as freshman Alexis Fuentes scored her first career goal as a Roadrunner at 48:07. She then earned an assist on freshman Amber Hermanns’s goal at the 58:52 mark.

Following those two goals the nightmare continued for CSI as they hardly got any offensive action and managed just one corner kick the entire game.

With the game in control, the Roadrunners did not let up, adding the seventh goal by sophomore Lauren Laskowski at 77:84 and the eight goal at 88:94 by freshman Karina Borda.

“The key was coming in strong, continuing to work on what we have to and using this to build for Saturday,” said senior and captain Brittany Mancini.

Mancini’s sights are set on Saturday, which is a NJAC clash against Rutgers-Camden, which is sure to be another great match.

The senior captain is not the only one with her eyes on the future; according to Schiffler this game should provide a great emotional boost for the team’s upcoming NJAC matches.

The Roadrunners are looking to improve their 1-3 NJAC record with their next four games against Rutgers-Camden, New Jersey City University, The College of New Jersey and Montclair State, which are all NJAC matchups.

With the convincing 9-0 victory over CSI, the Ramapo College women’s soccer team improves to a 3-6-2 overall.

The Roadrunners face a tough NJAC lineup throughout the next four games but with a solid win they look to be poised for a promising rest of the season.
