The Roadrunners came into their matchup with The College of New Jersey with a conference record of 0-15 and an overall record of 4-19. The Roadrunners were unable to find a way to win last night, as they fell to TCNJ 62-44.
Seniors Raven Jones, Kerrie Kosakowski and Tierney Henderson were all honored before the game as part of senior night.
“Our three seniors have worked very hard all season. They’re great girls and I really enjoyed coaching them,” said Ramapo head coach Mike Eineker.
In last night’s game, Kosakowski led the seniors with six points, and all three played at least 20 minutes, with Kosakowski playing a team-high 32 minutes.
Among the rest of the team, junior Grace Elliott led the team with 10 points, while sophomore Bintou Berete added eight points to go along with six rebounds, which led the team.
Though the team obviously has not had the kind of season they expected, Eineker said he had been pleased with his team’s efforts this year.
“It’s been a rough season, yet we’ve continued to play hard despite not having the success we wanted,” he said.
Eineker liked his team’s performance in the first half of the game against TCNJ, but the Roadrunners could not find a way to grab the lead. Instead, TCNJ went on a huge run at the end of the first half to take a 32-17 lead at halftime.
“When it was 20-15 with four minutes to go in the first half, we had really played well up until that point,” Eineker said. “From there, TCNJ went on a 12-2 run to end the half, and it’s really difficult for us to come back from being down 15, 20 points.”
With the departure of the team’s three seasons, the team will look to it’s young core for next season. Eineker said that despite the team’s overall record, he likes the progress that the team has made and is excited for the future.
“We had a very young team this year, but I liked the way our young players competed.”
The Roadrunners had five freshman, three sophomores and two juniors on the roster this season, so it is likely that a large part of this year’s team will be returning for next season.
The Roadrunners will close out their season with two road matchups against Rutgers-Camden and Rutgers-Newark.
With the win, TCNJ improves to 13-10 overall and 8-8 in the NJAC and are currently holding on to the fifth seed tournament spot.
