CSI Hires New SARM Adviser for Clubs and Organizations

There’s a new face in the Center for Student Involvement this semester, and one that club leaders are likely to be seeing often.

Eric Montgomery is the new Financial and Technological Coordinator for Clubs and Organizations at CSI, replacing Emily Davis in the Student Activities Revenue Management office. And while Montgomery has only been formally in the new role for a few days, he has been busy so far.

"Since starting, I have been learning more about the College, my coworkers, and student clubs and organizations here on campus," Montgomery said. "I was also lucky enough to participate in the All Together Different Retreat with several students, where we focused on diversity and being advocates here on campus. It was an amazing way to start this position."

After earning two bachelor’s degrees, one from the University of Delaware and another from Coastal Carolina University, Montgomery went on to pursue his master’s at New York University, where he also worked as a graduate assistant and a special projects manager for their Center for Student Activities, Leadership and Service.

It was this job that prompted Montgomery to come to enjoy the college setting.

"It was during my graduate assistantship that I realized I really liked working in higher education and wanted to pursue a full-time position in the field," he explained. "The only thing was, I needed to be close to NYU to complete my graduate program, so I focused on schools in the tri-state area."

Now that Montgomery is on board, he said he’s happy with his decision to settle here–and start learning.

"CSI and Ramapo have been very welcoming," Montgomery added. "I am now extremely happy to be in higher education and at Ramapo College. I don’t have any big plans yet but to learn as much as I can about CSI and SARM. I have a long way to go, but I am always open to suggestions."

While not working, Montgomery said he enjoys hiking and running (when the weather gets nicer) and plays on several basketball leagues. He also has an interesting side job.

"I have a part-time job as a tour guide at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery and the Historical Society serving Tarrytown and Sleepy Hollow," Montgomery said. "I work there on the occasional weekend and during the fall season. I really like it and have fun."

Montgomery’s office is located in SC-204, and he can be reached at ext. 7123 or emontgom@ramapo.edu.
