SLIDESHOW: Striking Out Breast Cancer

Theta Phi Alpha and the Ramapo College baseball team hosted the fourth annual Home Run Derby last month to raise money for Susan G. Komen for the Cure, a foundation dedicated to funding breast cancer research and awareness.

Sorority president, Danielle Ferlise, reported that the event drew a record number of participants and widespread support from the Ramapo and surrounding communities. The derby was organized by Colleen Moran and Natalie Marek in conjunction with baseball coach Rich Martin.

“The incessant planning and effort that Colleen and Natalie did helped make this year’s Home Run Derby bigger and better tahn ever before,” Ferlise said.

Online donations were accepted throughout the rest of October, and Ferlise said the sorority was able to raise $2,700 this year.

“We thank the baseball team for all their help in putting on the fundraiser and are ecstatic to be able to say $2,700 will be donated to Susan G. Komen to help strike out breast cancer,” Ferlise said.
