Roadrunners Defeat Cyclones in First Game of Season

The Ramapo College baseball team earned a win in their first game of the season with a 5-0 shutout against the Centenary College Cyclones on Monday.

The Roadrunners were led by senior pitcher Kevin Lee, who pitched seven innings and threw for seven strikeouts while allowing just one hit on 28 at bats for Centenary College.

Junior Walker Larson came in relief for Lee during the seventh inning, posted two more strikeouts and allowed no hits.

The Roadrunners jumped to an early lead in the game, scoring two runs in the first inning by senior Jose Garcia and junior Scott Peschiani.

Ramapo also scored one run in the fourth, eighth and ninth innings to secure the win.

Juniors Rich Policastro and sophomores Joe Venturino and Scott Paulus also scored for the Roadrunners. Juniors Chris Werr and Kevin Kelly, Garcia, Peschiani and Paulus each had an RBI in the game.

The Roadrunners had this lone game to prepare for the upcoming Russ Matt Tournament in Winter Haven, Fla. due to snow build up on the baseball field. They were supposed to have three sets of doubleheaders prior to this game, but all were postponed or canceled.

The Roadrunners will play every day of the week during the Russ Matt Tournament, and have doubleheaders on Sunday and next Friday.

After the break, the Roadrunners will visit Lehman College before returning home to host Rowan University for a doubleheader on March 29.
