Ramapo Easily Dominates Weekend Tournament

The Ramapo men’s volleyball team earned two Skyline Conference wins against the Sage College Gators and the New York University Polytechnic Institute Sunday at home.

The Roadrunners swept both teams in three sets and had contributions throughout the lineup.

In the first game against Sage, senior Brian Colabella led the Roadrunners with eight kills, while senior Nick Hrehovcik and freshman Ryan Casci contributed seven kills each. Casci also registered five digs to help the defensive effort.

Ramapo senior Andrew Balint had 24 assists in the game as the Roadrunners defeated the Gators 25-15, 25-19 and 25-13. Sage College is currently 7-6 in conference play.

Against NYU-Polytechnic, the Roadrunners dominated, never allowing their opponents to get in the game. They won swiftly in three sets: 25-6, 25-10 and 25-12.

Freshman Jake Matreale had nine kills to lead the Roadrunner offensive while Colabella and freshman Evan Carey provided support with six each. Hrehovcik and fellow senior Mike Kane contributed with 5 and 4 kills, respectively.

The Roadrunners posted a total of 41 kills on 69 attempts in the game. Freshman Alec Weissman led the Roadrunners with 21 assists.

With the wins, the Roadrunners improve to 23-9 overall and 11-2 in the Skyline Conference. They currently rank second in the Conference behind rival Kean University, who are undefeated in conference play at 13-0.

The Roadrunners will play their last Skyline Conference game of the season tomorrow, as they take on Yeshiva University. The game will be senior night for the Roadrunners, as they look to build momentum for the upcoming Skyline Conference Tournament.

Yeshiva is currently 0-13, while the Roadrunners prepare for what they hope will be a deep tournament run as the probable second seed.
