Finance Professor Moderates Discussion on 16th Amendment

On Thursday, April 17, Ramapo College finance professor Dr. Murray Sabrin hosted “The Income Tax: Necessary Evil, or the Root of All Evil?”, which examined the Sixteenth Amendment. The event took place at 7 p.m. in Trustees Pavilion and was free and open to the general public.

A panel of experts were present, including Jim Bennett, attorney and spokesman for the Fair Tax Act, Constance Crawford, CPA and accounting professor at Ramapo, Jacob Hornberger, founder and president of The Future of Freedom Foundation, Dan Mitchell, senior fellow at the Cato Institute in Washington, D.C. and a leading advocate for a flat tax, and lastly, Steven Pressman, who is a professor of economics and finance at Monmouth University, North American Editor of the Review of Political Economy, Associate Editor of the Eastern Economic Journal, and Treasurer of the Eastern Economic Association.

Panel members outlined their respective positions on the income tax policy and proposals to revise the system. Following the discussion was a question and answer period.
