Last Thursday, Ramapo commemorated 9/11 with a ceremony dedicated to those who died in the attacks. Over 3,000 American flags decorated the Grove, one for every life lost.

The ceremony began at the Salameno Spiritual Center, where students and staff were invited to reflect on and share their thoughts and experiences regarding the 9/11 attacks.

The memorial continued to the Grove, where the thousands of flags stood sentineled as New Jersey Senate President Stephen Sweeney and Senator Loretta Weinberg spoke in memory of those who died.

“I think everyone remembers where they were, what they were doing, how they found out, but most importantly we need to remember as a country to stay together and to stand together,” Sweeney said in his address.

After the speeches the crowd dispersed to reconvene later in the evening at the Spiritual Center for the closing ceremony.
