Support Athletics with Enthusiasm and Team Garb

As fall sports begin at Ramapo, students and faculty alike can enjoy watching the Roadrunners both on and off campus. For many students, Ramapo sports can offer a fantastic college experience and an overall great time when you make the most of them.

The first and easiest way to make the most of Roadrunner sports is to wear spirit gear from the bookstore on campus. The best way to show your support for the Roadrunners is to show up decked out in Ramapo gear. The bookstore offers everything from simple Ramapo T-shirts to official socks and even bow ties. For sports fans attending outdoor events in the fall, the bookstore also carries Ramapo jackets, windbreakers and long-sleeved shirts to keep warm as the weather cools down.

Once you have all the gear you need to support the team, the next best step is to know the schedule of on-campus games to attend. All schedules can be easily found on ramapoathletics.com, which includes both on- and off-campus schedules for every team at Ramapo.

If you cannot attend a game, Ramapo’s athletics site also offers live stats for each game so you can keep up with the Roadrunners no matter where you are.  Preparing for the games by knowing your stats and players is the best way to enjoy any sporting event, but a fan presence at the game can be equally important.

As any sports fan will tell you, it is impossible to enjoy any game while staring at your cellphone. While tweeting and texting about events may seem important, it can often distract viewers around you, causing everyone to miss key moments in the excitement. Cellphones are not prohibited at any sporting event, but enjoying the game in front of you is much better than scrolling through Facebook.

Similarly, remaining silent during the game can result in a boring experience, while cheering is always encouraged at any sporting event, and is a great way to show your support and boost athlete morale.

Concessions are another essential part of any sporting event, especially as the weather cools down in the fall. To warm up during outdoor games, the Curtain Call Café, located within the Berrie Center, serves a variety of Starbucks beverages along with muffins, sandwiches and other pastries. The self-proclaimed “best kept secret on campus” accepts Flex, Ramapo Dollars and cash surely providing the perfect refreshments before or after the game.

In the end, making the most of sporting events at Ramapo College comes down to fan support, enthusiasm and the willingness to help the Roadrunners take home countless victories, so make sure to get out there and support our teams this fall and spring.
