The Roadrunners men’s tennis team earned their first Greater Northeast Athletic Conference victory of the season by blanking Rutgers-Newark 9-0 on Saturday. The Roadrunners improve their overall record to 7-2 with the win.
Senior Jacob Khodakov won the first singles match for the Roadrunners with 6-1 and 6-4 victories. In second singles, freshman Willen Feygin earned 6-2 and 6-3 wins against his opponent.
In third singles, freshman Mike Abelev handled his opponent and earned 6-1 and 6-0 victories for the Roadrunners. Sophomore Justin Bevilacqua picked up an 8-2 win in fourth singles to earn another point for the Roadrunners.
Sophomore Mike Friedman tallied two shutouts to win fifth singles with back-to-back 6-0 wins. In the final singles set, sophomore Phillip Fuster won his match with two 6-4 victories.
The Roadrunners continued their domination in the doubles sets, as they won all three rounds against Rugers-Newark.
The first doubles pair of Khodakov and Bevilacqua won their set 8-3, while Abelev and Feygin won second doubles by the score of 8-1.
In the third doubles round, Friedman and freshman Adam Petrovics won their round 8-1.
Rutgers-Newark is 0-1 in the GNAC and 1-3 overall this season after the loss to Ramapo.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday at 4 p.m. when they host the Hunter College Hawks in a non-conference matchup.
