Residence Halls Host ‘Ramafair’

The Pine and Linden Halls staff, in conjunction with the College Programming Board and Residence Hall Council, put on the first ever “Ramafair” on Friday. The festivities was a carnival-themed affair with all the fixings, including the feel of being in a circus tent. The festivities were originally scheduled to be held at Laurel Courts, but were moved to the Alumni Lounges due to inclement weather. The alternate location did not hinder the festiveness of the event in the least.

The décor, food and games resembled childhood county fair favorites. Nostalgia was on the menu as they served corn dogs, waffle fries, pizza, funnel cake, cotton candy and frozen yogurt from local favorite “Lets Yo!,”  along with other fair favorites that made even the graduating seniors feel like kids again.

Pie an RA or CA was a crowd favorite, among others like the photo booth with props, face painting, balloon animals made by an in-house clown and old school classic beanbag toss. The room was packed with hardly enough room to move about.

Senior Sahar Sheikh said she most loved how everyone came out despite it being a Friday. Since many of Ramapo’s students commute, having an event at the tail end of the week can be difficult, but this was different. “I feel like it doesn’t matter what grade you’re in, everyone’s just out here to have fun.”

The raffle was also a high commodity, as students had the chance to win gift cards to Dunkin Donuts, ShopRite and BP gas stations. Bigger prizes included a Samsung 28-inch HDTV, Sony headphones, an Acer Chromebook, Nike duffel bag and smartphone accessories. The list of prizes was definitely designed with a Ramapo student in mind.

The circus has left town just in time for the serious climate that will transpire in the next few weeks in preparation of finals. A free break from classes was a nice treat to students, and the hard work of the organizers did not go unnoticed.
