The WRPR Radio Club hosted their very first Annual Radio Awards Dinner on Monday, April 17 at 8 p.m. in Friends Hall. The dinner marks the end of an eventful year for the Radio Club, and members were thrilled to come out to celebrate with friends.

Members enjoyed a catered dinner from Nicky’s Pizza and Deli, as well as open tables—an open mic for radio DJ’s to choose their own music while enjoying the dinner. Club election results were announced, and individual members were awarded trophies for their contributions to the station over the past year.

After an hour of mingling and enjoying food together, the event took on a more serious tone. The Radio Club Executive Board took to the stage to give heart-warming speeches and announce the anticipated award winners of the night.

Radio Club co-president Kyle Bandilla thanked Radio Club members in his speech for all the time and effort they have dedicated to the success of the station in this past year.

“I look out at all of your faces, your smiling faces,” said Bandilla, “And I just want to reiterate how each and every one of you are equally important. And thank you for getting involved and being here. It means so much to us.”

The 2018-19 Executive Board of the Radio Club was revealed after dinner was served. Co-presidents Kyle and Jackie were reelected, along with incumbent vice president Marissa Ruperto. New board members are listed as follows: Jackie Strauch as Treasurer, Isaiah McCall as Secretary, Jessica Ryan as Social Media Manager, and Andy Baez and Sam Anklowitz as Music Managers.

After election results were broadcast, the fun part of the night really began. Unique awards were handed out to every member of the Radio Club.  Some highlights included Best Makeup Award, Favorite Person, Worst Taste in Music, Loudest Voice, Worst Smile, Best Untrained-DJ Duo, Best Rock and Roll Duo and Best Sports Duo. Every member left with an award in hand, and altogether it was a fun night for the Radio Club.

Upcoming events for the Radio Club include the Media and Sports Panel on Thursday April 19 at 8:30 p.m. in Friends Hall, featuring Don La Greca of ESPN, Brandon London, Rick Laughland (Fox Sports) and Jordan Raanan (ESPN). Radio Club will also be co-sponsoring Grow a Little Bit on April 22 from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Arch. Come out for a fun night filled with music, glowsticks, composting lessons and plant potting.
