Men’s soccer sent packing by Montclair State

The Ramapo College men’s soccer team was defeated 5-2 on the road on Saturday by Montclair State University (MSU). The Roadrunners are now 1-2 in conference play and 1-6-1 overall after the loss.

MSU scored first and early in the matchup with a goal by Anthony Viola. The Red Hawks scored again, ending the first half with a goal by Ian Chesney on a penalty kick.

However, Ramapo was able to score first in the second half to cut the lead to one. The Roadrunners’ Damian Zurawski scored on a header off a pass by Osbin Mendez. MSU responded with two goals, one from Josiah Crawford and the other from Jacob Bartnik.

Before the game was over, Ramapo scored once more. Mendez netted a goal off a free kick at the top of the box. MSU added one more goal as well, from a free kick by Chesney.

Ramapo goalie Matthew Wilcox made six saves for Ramapo. Boris Del Valle had six saves for the Red Hawks.

The Roadrunners’ other conference loss comes from a tough game on Wednesday, Sept. 28, to Rutgers University-Camden. Ramapo held a 28-8 shot advantage but could not find the back of the net, being defeated 1-0 by the Scarlet Raptors.

Ramapo plays again at home on Saturday, Oct. 8, at 1 p.m. against New Jersey City University (NJCU) in another New Jersey Athletic Conference match-up. NJCU is currently 6-2 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
