Men’s volleyball splits against ranked teams

The Ramapo College men’s volleyball team continued their season these past two weeks with a record of 4-6 overall. In that stretch, they played three ranked teams and had a record of 2-3.

They played No. 13 ranked New York University (NYU) and No. 10 ranked Arcadia University on Feb. 4, splitting the weekend with a win and a loss at home. Kirchofer with 13 kills, Conor Charlow with five blocks and JoJo Meyer with 30 assists and 13 digs. 

In the second game of the day, the Roadrunners beat Arcadia by a score of 3-1, with the sets being 25-23, 23-25, 25-15 and 25-19. In this game, Ramapo

was led by Andrew Finnegan with 24 kills, Jack DiGirolamo and Charlow with three blocks each, Meyer with 43 assists and Kirchofer and Chris Moren with 10 digs each.

The next match the team played was against No. ranked 8 SUNY New Paltz on Feb. 9 in a losing effort at home, 0-3, with the sets being 20-25, 18-25 and 24-26. In this game, the Roadrunners were led by Finnegan with 10 kills, DiGirolamo with four blocks and Meyer with 22 assists and eight digs.

The next two games the team played on Feb 11 were against No. 4 ranked Vassar College and No. 5 ranked Eastern Nazarene College, splitting the weekend once again. Ramapo was swept in the game against Vassar with the sets being, 20-25, 18-25 and 17-25. In this game, they were led by Finnegan with 11 kills, DiGirolamo and Charlow with two blocks each, Meyer with 27 assists and Simon Moeller with 10 digs. 

 

“While the schedule we play might come with a few losses along the way, it’s going to prepare us for close games and our conference schedule, and we’ve already noticed the benefits by pulling out big wins vs. Arcadia and Eastern Nazarene. I’m excited to see what the rest of our season holds and enjoy playing with this group of guys.”

In the second game, they played Eastern Nazarene in a winning effort 3-1, with the sets being 26-24, 25-20, 25-27 and 25-19. In this game, they were led by Finnegan with 14 kills, DiGirolamo with five blocks, Meyer with 41 assists and Finnegan with 13 digs.

So far this season, graduate captain Finnegan, a graduate captain, has two New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Player of the Weeks and one Skyline Conference Player of the Week.

“I feel the last two weeks have gone very well,” said Finnegan. “We’ve had a very strong schedule to start the season playing numerous ranked teams but have used it to get better and push ourselves.”

The Roadrunners season continues on Feb. 21 at Drew University, and they return home against Kean University on Feb. 23 in a NJAC matchup.
