Men’s soccer goes down kicking against Montclair

On Saturday, Sept. 30, the Ramapo men’s soccer team faced off against Montclair State University (MSU) and were defeated, 4-1.

Within the first minute of the game, MSU’s Reed Karsen put his team on the board. No other goals were scored by either team during the rest of the first half.

The next goal, also from MSU, came a few minutes into the second half from defender Juan Uribe, assisted by midfielder Amer Lukovic. Lukovic then scored a goal of his own shortly after with an assist from Osbin Mendez, bringing the score to 3-0.

Freshman midfielder Luigi Portillo got Ramapo on the board with a penalty kick, his first goal of the season and first as a Roadrunner. However, MSU fought back as Lukovic scored his second goal of the game just two minutes after Portillo’s, his 45th career goal.

The Roadrunners tried their best with players like senior midfielder Jack Hosmer and junior defender Jake Szatkowski accumulating two of the four shots on goal, the other half coming from Portillo. Starters Gavin Mullin, Dino Radoncic and Kyle Allen totaled four shots with substitutes Alex Zargo and Mario Ramirez adding three.

Freshman goalkeeper Zachary Natt had six saves this game for the Roadrunners, bringing his total saves this season up to 23. For the Red Hawks, goalkeeper Shane Keenan recorded four saves.

Ramapo’s next game will take place on Saturday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m. against New Jersey City University in Jersey City.
