Ramapo cross country make new personal bests at NJIT

Last weekend the men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the METS Outdoor Championships hosted by the New Jersey Institute of Technology. The men’s team placed sixth overall out of nine teams, while the women’s team placed seventh out of ten teams. 

On the men’s team, many of the Roadrunners placed new personal best times. The first of these is sophomore Ryan Pena who placed 8th overall and first on the team with a time of 25:44.9. He was also named First Team All-MET. 

Following Pena, senior Jason Mercado placed 13th overall and second on the team, while being named Second Team All-MET. Then, senior Anthony Bertollo placed with a personal best time of 27:29.7, Michael Mohr at 28:13.6, Jimmy Stanton at 28:44.8 and Jose Espinal at 28:46.2.

Meanwhile, the women’s team was overrun with personal best times. One remarkable record came from freshman Dale Leonard, who not only reached a personal best at 18:09.30, but was also named First Team All-MET. 

After Leonard, junior Suzanne Zaugg achieved a personal best time at 18:31.88 and was named the Second Team All-MET. Then, Zoey Cassavell clocked in at 19:22.24, Zoe Gregory at 20:29:2, Frankie Cartagena at 21:09.1, Kiera Gregory at 21:18.3, Rea Pagatpatan at 21:56.5 and Izzy Crespo at 22:12.73.

The Roadrunners will be racing at the Border Battle hosted by Rowan University at Dream Park in Logan Twp. on Oct. 14.
