Women’s soccer bear defeat against Stockton

Ramapo’s Women’s Soccer team took to the field against Stockton University on Sunday, losing 4-1. This puts the Roadrunners at 2-11-1 overall and 0-7-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC).

The Ospreys quickly took the lead in this game early with back-to-back goals in the third and fourth minutes of the game by Erica Dietz and Logan Shaw. 20 minutes into the game, Dietz scored again, bringing the score to 3-0.

The Ospreys maintained their lead in the second half of the game when Kylee Reissek, assisted by Sophia Drea, scored for the Ospreys, making it a 4-0 game.

85 minutes into the game, Ramapo finally got on the board when Ashley Agrillo assisted Kaylee Babasade on a goal, Babasade’s first career goal.

Senior Makenna Tahbaz was in goal for 60 minutes of action, recording three saves for Ramapo. Gabby Matias then came in goal for the final 29 minutes of the game, recording six saves and not allowing a goal.

With their winless record in the NJAC, it remains unlikely that the Roadrunners will find themselves in the playoffs after Wednesday’s game against William Paterson University. This season will end as one of the most disappointing in team history, but the Roadrunners will use this season as motivation to look ahead to their 2024 campaign.

In her final season, team captain Carla Goodwin led the team in goals, points and shots. Meanwhile, freshman forward Amber Maher finished second on the team in each of those three categories and led the Roadrunners in assists. She is someone the program can build around in the future.
