Hill, Cortez-Fields set records at Cougar Splash

Over the weekend of Nov. 17, the Ramapo men’s and women’s swim teams participated in the Cougar Splash Invitational in Dallas, Pennsylvania. The men’s team finished in third place out of five competing teams, and the women’s team finished in fifth place out of six competing teams.

The weekend was highlighted by standout performances from freshman Jack Hill and senior Meghan Cortez-Fields. Hill finished in first place in the men’s 200-yard freestyle with his time of 1:39.37, and first place in the men’s 50-yard freestyle with his time of 20.90. In total, Hill set program records in four separate events. Cortez-Fields set a program record with her time of 57.22 in the women’s 100-yard butterfly, finishing in first place. She also finished in first place in the women’s 200-yard IM with her time of 2:12.05.

Overall, the Roadrunners competed in a total of 21 events, accumulating 29 top-10 finishes. Other highlights during the event for Ramapo include the men’s 200-yard freestyle team finishing in second place, sophomore Alazne Sudupe finishing in second place in the women’s 500-yard freestyle, Benjamin Gomez finishing in second place in the men’s 100-yard butterfly and Samuel De Leon finishing in second place in the men’s 100-yard breaststroke. 

Rounding out all the top three finishes for the event were Cami Yovich with a third place finish in the women’s 500-yard freestyle, and Gomez with a third place finish in the men’s 50-yard freestyle.

Both the men’s and women’s teams have one more event to go before winter break. The Roadrunners will travel to Montclair on Friday, Dec. 8 where they will participate in a tri-meet against Montclair State University and Rowan University at 4 p.m.
