Ramapo men’s track and field leaves with room for improvement

Ramapo’s men’s indoor track and field team hit the ground running on Dec. 2 at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) Winter Open, taking place at the NY Armory Track & Field Center.

Ramapo’s sophomore distance runner, Brandon Balcacer finished with a time of 7.05 seconds during the men’s 60-meter dash preliminaries, recording a seventh place finish. Balcacer was followed closely behind by fellow Roadrunners Allan Hilton Clarke and Terrell Lockett. The pair finished in 7.16 and 7.17 seconds, respectively. 

Balcacer placed second in the men’s 60-meter dash finals, stopping the clock at 6.93 seconds. 

In the men’s 300 meters, Lockett finished in 15th place with his time of 36.30 seconds. Behind him was Ramapo sophomore Matt Suero with a time of 37.78 seconds. Suero was followed immediately by Logan Natale, who finished in 37.81 seconds. 

The men’s 600-meter event saw sophomore Roadrunner Saim Syed finish in ninth place. Syed completed the event with a time of 1:24.77. Sophomore Colin Unis followed Syed, securing 13th place with a time of 1:27.27.

The men’s 1000 meter event had Roadrunner Ryan Scully finish in the top five, placing fourth with a time of 2:40.33. Suero finished this event in the top ten with a time of 2:44.23. 

The men’s mile saw Ramapo in the top five again with Ryan Pena scoring the Roadrunners fourth place with a time of 4:27.41. Senior Anthony Bertollo brought in ninth place with a time of 4:37.47.  

Ramapo’s Suero, Lockett, Natale and Unis finished the relay with a time of 3:35.95 and were followed closely by Pena, Syed, Suero and Scully who also participated for the Roadrunners, finishing together with a time of 3:36.80.

Moving on from track to the field events, the men’s high jump saw Clarke in the top ten, clearing 1.77 meters and Benjamin Zelasco finished in 15th place, clearing 1.67 meters. 

In the men’s long jump event, Ramapo freshman Sebastiano Secades cleared 5.80 meters, putting him in 23rd place. Fellow freshman Jake Angco followed behind Secades, clearing 5.73 meters. 

Angco went on to clear 11.97 meters in the triple jump event, putting him in 17th place. Right behind Angco in 18th was Secades, clearing 11.68 meters.

On Friday, Dec. 8, the Roadrunners will be traveling to Ocean Breeze Athletic Center for the Seahawk Invitational that is being hosted by Wagner College. The meet will start at 1 p.m.
