Nicki Minaj’s ‘Bigfoot’ takes needless stab at Megan Thee Stallion

Nicki Minaj returns with her latest track, “Bigfoot,” a not-so-subtle diss at Houston rapper Megan Thee Stallion after alleged lyrics about Minaj and her family have hit the rap scene. This caused a major battle of wits between the two stars.

The song stemmed from Megan Thee Stallion’s new single, “HISS,” where she states that she’s here to clear up any rumors about her and is way past holding back. From referencing popular rapper Drake to her past lovers, Megan Thee Stallion laid everything out on the line and showed her audience that she isn’t afraid to call anyone out for what they’ve done to her and others.

While Minaj has claimed Megan Thee Stallion has never had a No. 1 hit on her own track, X user Pop Base reported “HISS” hitting No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 Top 10 chart of the week, making Megan Thee Stallion the first independent female artist to debut at No. 1.

During the song, there is a particular line stating “These hoes don’t be mad at Megan, these hoes mad at Megan’s Law,” which is a direct reference to the United States federal law that requires a sex offender’s information be made public if they are on the registry list.

Many fans’ speculate that this was a direct hit to Minaj’s husband, Kenny Petty, who has been a registered sex offender after pleading guilty for 16 attempted rape charges.

Shortly after “HISS” debuted, Minaj went on Instagram Live to share her thoughts on the situation and played a snippet of a song she had been working on, with lyrics reading, “Bad bitch she like six foot / I call her Big Foot / the bitch fell off, I said, ‘Get up / on your good foot.’” After numerous days of Tweeting about the alleged diss Megan Thee Stallion had made and speaking in riddles during her countless Instagram Lives, Minaj announced that her new song “Bigfoot” would release on Jan. 29.

Since the song has been out for quite some time, what I found most interesting was that Minaj’s reaction and track in response to “HISS” was all alleged because Megan Thee Stallion had never mentioned her by name. For all we know, Megan Thee Stallion could have been referring to another rapper or applying it to anyone else in the music industry. However, this really struck a chord in Minaj, so much so that she had to retaliate.

The lyrics in the song have some potential to be shocking, but they never fully get there and it leaves the listener wanting more from the critically-acclaimed lyricist. The quips Minaj does try to throw are mainly targeted on Megan Thee Stallion’s shooting incident with Tory Lanez, who has now been sentenced up to 10 years for assault with a firearm. Minaj also speaks about Megan Thee Stallion’s mother who recently passed and how she was unable to cry during a live Gayle King interview.

1. Whether Minaj likes it or not, Megan Thee Stallion is here to stay and is not backing down from any fight, despite “Bigfoot” directly targeting her.
