Women’s basketball secures senior day victory

Ramapo’s women’s basketball team went up against Rutgers-Camden University last Saturday, taking a 69-40 victory in the Bradley Center. This win moved the Roadrunners to 14-8 overall and 10-5 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC).

The Roadrunners celebrated their graduating teammates in a pre-game ceremony to send off seniors Reilly Sheeley, Jada Thompson, Brianna Michel, Jackie Ventricelli and Shannon Burns.

Rutgers scored the first basket of the game, but the Roadrunners found themselves up 18-2 over the Scarlet Raptors by the end of the first quarter.

The third quarter started off with a basket by Ventricelli, assisted by junior teammate Olivia Johnstone. Shortly after, Thompson snagged a rebound and made a basket. The third quarter finished with a 36-16 lead in favor of Ramapo.

The Roadrunners went into the fourth quarter with a 20-point lead. The Roadrunners went up a crushing 62-30 midway through the quarter after a 3-point basket from Johnstone, leaving the Scarlet Raptors in the dust.

Overall, Ramapo’s star seniors, Ventricelli and Thompson, added 19 and 18 points respectively, with Ventricelli and Thompson each spending more than 25 minutes in the game. Additionally, Ventricelli tallied four steals. Thompson posted her 28th double-double of her career and 12th of the season.

The Roadrunners scored an astounding 16 points off turnovers and 12 fast break points, shooting 21% (5-23) from the three-point line and 60% (6-10) from the free throw line.

Next, Ramapo will be facing off against The College of New Jersey in an NJAC matchup on their home court, the Bradley Center, at 3 p.m. on Saturday. Feb. 10.
