Dale Leonard tears up the track

Freshman distance runner Dale Leonard has set the Ramapo athletics world on fire this year, breaking multiple school records, including the indoor mile and the 800m indoor record. She also set the meet record for the mile at the All-Atlantic Regional Track and Field Championships last week.

Leonard’s season has been unlike many in Ramapo history. In the fall, she became the first female to represent the team at the NCAA Championships after winning the NCAA Metro Regional Championships.

Leonard was also named to the All-Metro Region Honors team for three separate events — the mile, the 800m and the 3k. Now, Leonard will take her talents to Virginia Beach, Virginia, where she will represent the Roadrunners at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Leonard is the first Roadrunner to compete in the event since middle distance runner Cheickna Traore did so last year. Traore has since graduated from Ramapo and is now competing at Penn State University, attempting to compete for a spot on Côte d’Ivoire’s Olympic team.

Leonard, who qualified to compete in the mile run at the event, will first compete in the prelims on Friday, March 8 at 2:40 p.m.
