Ramapo’s baseball team catches victory against Alvernia

Ramapo’s baseball team slid into a win against Alvernia University in Reading, Pennsylvania this past Tuesday, beating the Wolves 13-4. The Roadrunners now sit at 3-3 on the season.

After a scoreless first inning, infielder Tyler Guadagno recorded a three-run double to right center, putting the Roadrunners on the board. He was followed by freshman infielder Jack Tallent, who recorded an RBI single. 

The game remained a 4-0 Ramapo lead until the bottom of the fourth inning, where the Wolves scored three runs, all off Roadrunner fielding mistakes.

The Roadrunners responded in the top of the fifth inning, scoring five more runs, putting them in front 9-3. Infielder Zack Bailey recorded an RBI triple, scoring junior Dominick Ciani. Senior John Higgins followed that up with an RBI triple of his own, and he was brought home by senior Will Egner. The inning was capped off with a two-run home run from junior outfielder Robert Klawans.

In the sixth inning, the Roadrunners added an additional four runs to push their lead to 13-3. Ciani recorded an RBI single, and Bailey launched a three-run home run to left field. In total, Bailey recorded two hits, two earned runs and four RBI, while Klawans and Tallent both led Ramapo with three hits each. 

Sophomore pitcher James Pazdera recorded his first win of the season, lasting four innings, striking out four and walking two. For the Wolves, Grant Fitzgerald started, lasting four and one-third innings, allowing six earned runs on seven hits.

The Roadrunners posted 16 hits in total, including four doubles, two triples and two home runs. 

The Roadrunners will return to the field at the RussMatt Invitational from March 17-24 in Auburndale, Florida.
