Lacrosse takes two losses and a win over spring break

The Ramapo lacrosse team suffered a loss during their game against Mount Saint Mary College on March 16, with the final score being 22-16. Sophomore attacker Leah Whitney, junior midfielder Kelly Griffin and sophomore midfielder Erin Smeilus of Ramapo tallied three scores in the first quarter, with Smeilus being assisted by junior attacker Kaylie Gresek.

In the second quarter, the Roadrunners scored five times, but it wasn’t enough to match nine goals from the Knights. Ramapo’s goals came from Griffin and Smelius, with three and two, respectively.

In the third quarter, both teams scored five goals each, including two from Griffin. In the final quarter, the Knights scored six goals to the Roadrunners’ three. Throughout the game, Griffin tallied seven goals, Smeilus five, Gresek had two assists and junior goalie Alyssa Curto contributed 22 saves.

Ramapo lost again against the University of Mount Saint Vincent on March 19, 14-10. Throughout the game, Griffin and Smeilus contributed four goals each while Gresek and sophomore midfielder Bethany Glaser both scored one goal. Gresek and Griffin both had three assists as well, and Curto tallied seven saves in goal.

Despite the two losses, the Roadrunners got back on track on Thursday, March 21, winning against the University of Saint Joseph, 17-4.

The Blue Jays only scored one goal in each of the four periods thanks to the impressive goalkeeping from Curto and the Roadrunners’ defense efforts. Griffin and Glaser each scored five goals in the game, while Smeilus scored three and junior midfielder Ella Shade contributed two goals.

The Roadrunners are now 3-5 on the season and have yet to play a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) match. Their next action comes on Wednesday, April 3 against DeSales University, and their first NJAC matchup will be on Saturday, April 6 against The College of New Jersey.
