Sabrina Carpenter is keeping us up with new pop single ‘Espresso’

Just ahead of her set at Coachella, singer Sabrina Carpenter released an energetic and vibrant pop track, “Espresso,” on Friday.

The song is fun and flirty, with lyrics like “Now he’s thinkin’ ’bout me every night, oh / Is it that sweet? I guess so / Say you can’t sleep, baby, I know / That’s that me, espresso.”

The song centers around the use of espresso as a metaphor. With its strong flavor and addictive caffeine content, it symbolizes an intense romantic connection. The song is full of creative lyrics about being desirable and keeping men up at night, like a shot of espresso would.

Musically, the song features such a fun beat. It reminds me of the very upbeat and groovy production you would hear in the backing track of a classic Dua Lipa song. The song combines this with super catchy melodies, making it sure to get stuck in your head.

In an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, Carpenter discussed the process of creating the single. She said, “Weirdly enough, I ended up writing this song in France, and I think that that probably had a little bit of inspiration to how the song ended up feeling.”

I can hear this influence in the song. While a lot of her other music has been upbeat and flirty in the past, this one is definitely a little different in terms of the overall vibe and sound.

Soon after the release of this single came the music video, which features a retro film style. It follows Carpenter and a group of girls at a beach with men doting on them, providing umbrellas, applying sunscreen and so on.

The music video reinforces the fact that “Espresso” is going to be one of the songs of the summer. The groovy beat is perfect for driving to the beach with the windows down and the music blasting.

Carpenter’s career is really taking off as of late, and she is one of the biggest “it girls” in the pop music scene at the moment. Her 2022 album, “Emails I Can’t Send” did very well, but after opening for Taylor Swift at “The Eras Tour” this year, she has gained so many new fans and mainstream attention.

I personally had heard and enjoyed some of her songs, such as “because i liked a boy” and “Skin,” but it wasn’t until I watched videos of her performing at “The Eras Tour” that I really fell in love with her music and her live performances. Now I am definitely a huge Carpenter.

With this increasing fanbase, “Espresso” marks her first single to enter the top 10 on the Spotify Global Chart.
