Lilyisthatyou releases new whimsical single

I recently discovered Toronto-based popstar Lily Davies, known as Lilyisthatyou, and I have been interested in her music since. Her song “SIREN” is what captivated me with its rhythmic pattern and her unique voice. She accentuates the words of her songs in such a way that she catches listeners’ attention while also portraying the manic personality behind her lyrics.

Her newest single “DIRTY LITTLE FANTASY” embodies this as well. She’s singing about finding temporary entertainment mostly through partners to distract herself from the dread of living. In the chorus, she sings, “Tonight I finally found a way to let it go / I’m getting by with sex and drugs and rock ‘n’ roll.”

This part of the single is all the more hitting with her layered vocals against the synth beat. There is something transcendent about the way she sings and the contrast between her main vocals and the deeper notes in the background.

My favorite part of the song is the bridge as she takes on this eccentric shout. The way she sings in this section really demonstrates the imbalance she is feeling between her true emotions and the desire to forget them.

Lilyisthatyou has released a few singles throughout this year, which gives me hope that she may release a new album soon. Her music is the kind I can easily vibe to and I find it hard to restrain myself from dancing to it as I walk to classes.
