Ramapo’s track and field competes at Coach Pollard Invitational

Ramapo’s men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Coach Pollard Invitational at Moravian University on April 20. 

In the 400m dash, junior Terrell Lockett finished in second place with a personal best time of 49.60 seconds while freshman Logan Natale finished sixth overall with a personal best time of 50.18 seconds. 

Sophomore Brandon Balcacer finished second place in the 100m dash with a time of 10.60 seconds. This is his personal best time as well as the second best in Ramapo history.

Lockett, Natale, Balcacer and freshman Mike Okafor-Brown made up the 4x100m relay team that placed fifth overall with a combined time of 42.75 seconds.

In the 1,500m run, senior Anthony Bertollo placed 11th overall in 4:12.49. Junior Michael Mohr finished with a time of 4:15.89 and freshman Julian Mignone finished at 4:17.87. 

Finally, graduate student Jason Mercado finished at 4:19.33 and freshman Brandon Meneses at 4:25.90. 

Sophomore Ryan Pena finished fourth place in the 800m run with a time of 1:56.44. Then, sophomore Nicolo Caminiti tied for ninth place in the high jump as he cleared 1.75m. Freshman Jake Angco finished 12th in the triple jump with a mark of 11.94m.

As for the women’s team, freshman Dale Leonard continued her outstanding season, winning the 5k race with a time of 17:30.27, a new program and facility record. Senior Suzanne Zaugg followed as she finished second at a personal best time of 18:21.19.

In the 100m dash finals, junior Rebecca Kneppel placed second overall in 11.98 seconds, a facility record.

Kneppel, junior Barbara Exilus, freshman Ashley Gordon and freshman Izzy Crespo made up the 4x100m relay team that posted a combined time of 49.28 seconds, placing fourth overall. 

In the 200m dash, Crespo placed 13th overall with a time of 26.54 seconds. Meanwhile, the 4x400m relay team made up of Exilus, freshman Regine-Ann Lladoc, freshman Rea Pagatpatan and junior Kacy Ewing finished 12th overall at 4:32.22.

Sophomore Jessica Branham marked 4.86m in the long jump and cleared 1.45m in the high jump.

Meanwhile, the throwers of the men’s track team competed at the Rider Invitational the same day, hosted by Rider University. Senior Sebastian Pross placed sixth overall at 49.57m in the hammer throw. Sophomore Braden Holm placed 13th overall in the same event at 41.19m and placed 14th in the shot put at 11.47m. 

Up next the men’s and women’s track teams will be traveling to Vassar College for the Vassar Invitational on April 26.
