In Other News: Week of Sept. 11 on campus

SGA holds a 9/11 memorial with a sea of American flags

To honor the lives lost on the tragic event of 9/11, Ramapo’s Student Government Association reprised their annual tradition of decorating the grounds by the Arch with small American flags. Students passed the display on their way to class, reflecting on this special day in history. The flags could be seen around the sidewalks in a huge patch to the left of the Arch and all across The Grove.

An observance and gathering took place at the Arch on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 1 p.m. in addition to the flags. The gathering featured music and various reflections from those who were involved in 9/11. The ceremony had a moment of silence for those that lost their lives that day and paid tribute to help their memory live on. The flags were displayed for two days, ending with a final tribute to all of those that lost their lives.

Ramapo’s active involvement with younger votes and encourages political engagement

The Civic Community Engagement Center (CCEC) and the Political Science department of Ramapo hosted a screening of the 2024 Presidential Debate on Sept. 10. Attendees were invited to play a game of bingo with possible topics or phrases either presidential candidate may bring up, such as taxes, “Border Czar” and Jan. 6.

CCEC Office Manager Sarah Glisson started the event with attendees signing a pledge to vote for the 2024 New Jersey Ballot Bowl, a competition between public schools to see which has the most student voters. There was also QR codes to help students register to vote if they had not done so yet.

In addition to representatives of the CCEC, professors of political science Dr. Michael Unger and Dr. Kaitlin Sidorsky attended.

This was an opportunity for a large number of students to remain caught up with the election and learn more about either party’s platforms.
