Men’s soccer team has a strong start to the season

The Ramapo College men’s soccer team played two games this past week: Western Connecticut State (WestConns) on Sept. 11 and Saint Elizabeth University on Sept. 14.

The Roadrunners traveled to Connecticut for the first match, taking them to 2-1-1 overall, ending the game with a 1-1 tie.

Ramapo made it onto the scoreboard during the 17th minute of the first half with senior midfielder Jack Hosmar scoring the first point of the game, putting the Roadrunners in a 1-0 lead.

WestConn’s Zachary Tuccitto attempted a shot on goal but was blocked by Ramapo’s senior goalkeeper Nikolai Matthews. After a strenuous back-and-forth between the Roadrunners and the Wolves, WestConn made it onto the board with Kadin Talho’s third goal of the season, putting the score at 1-1.

The game ended in a tie, with Matthews making nine saves for Ramapo by blocking nine attempted shots. Ramapo also ended the game with seven corner kicks and 18 fouls.

The Roadrunners’ home game against Saint Elizabeth’s University resulted in a sweeping 2-0 win for Ramapo.

The first goal of the game was scored by Ramapo’s Kyla Allen. In the first half, Allen was able to make a shot on goal with an assist from freshman teammate Elton Mani. This was Allen’s fourth goal of the season, putting Ramapo in a lead they would keep for the rest of the game.

During the second half of the game, junior Roadrunner Alim Lita made the second goal of the game with an assist from senior teammate Jun Choi, putting Ramapo up 2-0. Overall, Ramapo made 16 attempted shots with three saves and nine corner kicks. Ramapo’s sophomore goalkeeper Dilan Solorzano earned the final save of the game within the last 10 minutes.

This win brings Ramapo up to 3-1-1 overall in non-conference action. The Roadrunners will return to the field on Saturday, Sept. 21 against Penn College in Williamsport, PA.
