Ramapo’s meal plan changes leaves students upset and with less affordable options

The recent changes to Ramapo’s meal plans discarded the Simple 7 plan and sparked mixed reactions among students. With the introduction of the revised plans, the prices have also gone up. Students now have to pick between the Ultimate Plan, Maroon 14 and Tasty 10, depending on their preferences and lifestyles.

The Ultimate Plan offers unlimited access to Birch Tree Inn and $200 flex dollars. It sounds good at first, however, most students quickly get tired of the repetitive meals at the dining hall. Additionally, for students with hectic schedules who need to grab food quickly or take it to go, this plan is not convenient, as it doesn’t allow for takeout from the dining hall.

Next, there’s the Maroon 14 plan which offers 14 meals at Birch and $300 dollars in flex. This is an upgrade from the original Maroon 12 plan, adding two extra meals and $50 in flex. However, the change seems unnecessary, raising the question of whether it was a way to justify the price increase.

The Tasty 10 plan contains 10 meals per week and $500 dollars in flex. This plan had the biggest change from last semester, with an increase of $400 dollars in flex. This revisement to the original plan seems to be making up for the fact that Simple 7 was eliminated. It definitely sounds like the most appealing meal plan for students who loved Simple 7.

Even though the new meal plans offer some variety, they come at a higher price. Getting rid of Simple 7 left students frustrated about the removal of the most affordable meal plan on campus. I personally believe that these changes were unnecessary and do not make sense, and that students would have been happier keeping the Simple 7 as their plan.
