Tate McRae has shocked fans with hit single ‘It’s ok I’m ok’

Young and upcoming pop star Tate McRae released her new single “It’s ok I’m ok” on Thursday, Sept. 12. However, McRae previously performed the unreleased song at her Think Later World Tour in Madison Square Garden back in late August with her boyfriend The Kid Laroi also making an appearance on stage.

“It’s ok I’m ok” is McRae’s first release of the year with her latest release being her second album “THINK LATER” in December 2023, which features popular songs such as “Greedy.” McRae had begun teasing her new single on Instagram just two weeks before the song was released. The new and upbeat pop song brings excitement for McRae’s new music coming sometime in the future.

McRae’s previous boyfriend is NHL player Cole Sillinger and it has been rumored that he cheated on her. McRae clarifies in the single that she is feeling “ok” over her ex-boyfriend and his actions. The single features lyrics such as “And she be like, ‘He’s so perfect’ / I be like, ‘Oh, what version?’” which suggests this track is about their relationship.

However, McRae’s music video for “It’s ok I’m ok” has caused some controversy online. The Canadian pop star appears to be naked while being arrested by police in the video. User @yvesskin on X has shared a post that has now reached over five million views, “I am tired of the constant need for over-sexualization in the current pop industry like what is this?” Fans speculate that McRae was inspired by Britney Spears and The Pussycat Dolls for her performance in the video.

Other than the video receiving differing views, fans are loving the new single. @hiimbrina on X has shared: “this song and its music video take the cake. i am shook and amazed at the same time. the choreo is insane, and the outfits and the entire ‘story’ are astonishing.” Buzzfeed has also stated that McRae’s new single is “a song and music video that’ll cement her as a pop princess forever.”
